Rokai

Rokai (singular: Roki) are a species of demons that are Egyptian in origin, but most of the species migrated to Europe and the Americas. They are largely responsible for the similarities in the design of architecture with Egypt and many Latin American structures.

They are similar to Egyptian mummies with their bandages, and they are to blame for the rumors of "mummies' curses", for it sometimes happens that any who threatens a Roki ends up dying mysteriously three days later, but it's not often the case. In fact, there's only a 20% chance of death from encountering and threatening a Roki.

Rokai hatch from football-sized eggs in sheltered caves, and from birth they are often alone, their parents having disappeared almost as soon as the egg is laid. Because of this, Rokai are similar to most species of snakes in the idea that they hatch already capable of sustaining themselves without parenting.

The species runs to tallness, the males occasionally reaching heights of eight feet when they're fully grown, the females close behind at seven feet. But as height can vary among humans, it can vary among Rokai as well, though they are never less than six feet in height.

They are known for their amazing strength, but they are also born with limited telekinesis, only able to move some objects around but not lift them. Only if they train themselves and hone their telekinesis would they be able to lift objects as well as push them. They are also born with the ability to manipulate their bandages to move like serpents, to whip around, or to bind an opponent from moving.

The bandages on a Roki are a part of the demon's body, and are attached underneath the skin. They are born with these bandages, but where the bandages are located varies, much like the distinguishing markings of any other living creature. The bandages grow as the demon itself grows, like hair or fingernails, until a certain age, and each bandage has small nerve endings that can be retracted so that the bandages may be trimmed. However, if the bandages are cut in the wrong way, they can bruise and bleed from tiny veins.

It has often been believed that Rokai's bandages possess healing properties, and Rokai were hunted and killed, so their bandages may be harvested and used for medical practices. However, they were never hunted in Egypt. It was only after their migration to Europe and the Americas that the rumors about their bandages began to spread.

While in Egypt, they were highly respected, much like the other wildlife in the Egyptian deserts, and the Egyptians left them alone, except to ask for occasional small favors. But aside from that, Rokai had very little human interaction. The last favor they paid to the Eyptians was assisting in the construction of the pyramids, an endeavor the Rokai truly delighted in performing.

But in recent years, the respect for Rokai diminished, and they were hunted and killed for their bandages in Egypt as well, and hunters also harvested the saliva of the Rokai, which was proven to have healing qualities. Aside from being hunted, the Rokai were tracked down as their numbers shrank, and they were caught, measured, and tagged, so that researchers could keep a close tab on the demons' numbers, and hopefully prevent extinction of the species.
A species of Egyptian demons I have created. I hope to use them more than once, in all honesty.
