Xen was quiet as they walked back to Leslie's house. Too quiet in Dariel's opinion. After a minute or two, the young angel stopped and stared at the demon. There seemed to be something on Xen's mind, but Dariel couldn't seem to figure out what it could be. Seeing that Dariel had stopped, Azaxeniel stopped and looked back at him.
"Why'd you stop?"
"You've been too quiet!" Dariel answered, raising his arms in surrender. Though, as he moved his right shoulder, pain went shooting through it, and he realized what bone it had been that Xen had snapped earlier. "Ow!" Xen was immediately at Dariel's side, looking genuinely guilty for the angel's pain. It was true that it was Xen's fault, but he had his reasons for doing what he did, even if the results weren't really what Dariel had hoped for.
"Sorry about that.." He said softly. "I had to actually break a bone or faking your death wouldn't have been as convincing..." Dariel winced as Xen tended to the angel's broken collarbone, but he understood what Xen was saying and accepted his apology with a quiet nod. But as Xen tore a strip from his ragged coat and used it to bandage the angel's shoulder, a thought crept into Dariel's mind, and he stared hard at the demon, thinking for a moment before he decided he might as well just speak his mind.
"Xen?" His voice was a bit hesitant, but now this was something he had to say, had to get it off his chest and out in the open. Hopefully, Xen wouldn't respond too badly to the idea that Dariel was about to propose to him.
"Hm?" Xen looked at him curiously, the crimson streak of his hair fluttering slightly in the gentle breeze that coiled around the two.
"I know it's forbidden, and I don't know how you feel about the idea, but.." Dariel stared at the ground now, rather than looking at Xen's face. "I'm sure you're already aware that I've fallen in love with you.." Xen laughed.
"Well, that's no surprise." He teased. "Who wouldn't fall in love with this?" He gestured to his bare chest and slender body. Dariel shook his head.
"This isn't a joke, Xen.." He told him. "I want your honest opinion on this.." Xen frowned, and gently cupped Dariel's chin in his hand, looking him straight in the eyes and drawing him in a bit closer to him. Dariel blushed faintly at being this close to Xen, so close that he could almost hear the demon's heartbeat..or was that his own heart pounding in his ears? He shifted his black, feathered wings uncertainly as Azaxeniel spoke.
"You want honesty?" Xen asked. "All right, then. Fine." He sighed and looked up at the sky. "I don't know if I'm ready for love yet, but I'm not saying no to you, exactly..." He shook his head, but he smiled gently. "But..are you sure you want to love a wingless freak?" Dariel trailed his fingers along Xen's jawline, as he whispered softly,
"Yes..." Xen blushed slightly and suddenly turned away, heading back to Leslie's house. Dariel smiled and jogged to catch up with him.
It wasn't long before they finally reached Leslie's house, the young girl was in the doorway, looking impatient.
"And where have you two been?" She asked. "You just ran off without reason."
"We had spies.." Xen replied, shrugging. Without warning, he suddenly lifted Dariel off his feet and carried him inside, grinning.
"Damned beast!" Startled, Xen dropped Dariel on the floor and went running out of the house, completely startling Leslie as he passed her.
"Shit! Where do these guys keep coming from?!" Xen grumbled.
"Wait! Xen! What the hell is going on?!" Leslie screamed after him. Xen looked over his shoulder at her, grinning as he kept running.
"Can't talk now! I'll explain later!"
Chapter 8 of Piece of Heaven! It took me a while, but it's finally uploaded! I hope everyone enjoys this new chapter, though it may be a bit shorter than I planned.
